Germany, having unfolded schemes of accepting around 5 million qualified guest workers in the coming years, now dominates the hopes of unemployed engineers of Turkey. Young engineers are reportedly looking to find a way to emigrate to Germany for their future, engineers chambers officials say..
According to a recent research by the Izmir branch of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers colleagues over 45 years of age having lost all hope of continuing their careers as engineers look to find different opportunities. This group in general seeks after shifting work in other areas such as running cafes, restaurants, real estate businesses and or insurance agaencies.
Yet, the future in free trade is not as vright as some might expect. More than 25 engineers interviewed by the Chamber, say that they had to close down look for new jobs as wage workers. While, the recent graduates mostly consider of staying in the universities for a masters degree rather more than joining the mass of unemployed.
The jobless are ready to accept even as little as the minimum wage. In the past generally young engineers who had just finished their degrees applied the chamber for assiatance in finding new jobs says the branch chair Deniz Dinc. "But now, in the wake of the economic crisis, this profile has changed and engineers of all groups and ages are seeking assistance," he told Bianet.
The engineers expectations have also been narrowed seriously and they do not think of nothing but finding a job whatever it is, Deniz observes. "The amount of salaries or social security is not their first concern."
"Engineers salaries are daily lowering and the number of engineers who are ready to work even for the minimum wage is increasing gradually on the increase," he added.
"After the economic crisis companies have changed their policies and they offer unprecedentedly lower wages. In 2000 companies were underemployed but these days they are daily firing engineers," he concludes.
