Anadolu Agency (AA), Turkey’s semi-official news agency, has added Kurdish to its 5 other languages on September 1 - Peace Day.
While AA already provided content in English, Arabic, BSH (acronym for Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian) and Russian, it has added Kurmanji and Sorani dialects of Kurdish language to its languages.
News service in Kurdish will include content from politics, economy, sports, tourism, lifestyle, culture and arts. The agency is expected to provide content with additional photos and videos to regional media.
On the other hand, news from Turkey and Iraqi Kurdish Region will be released in Turkish, Arabic, Russian and Bosnian.
Peace and Democracy Party Co-Chairperson Selahattin Demirtaş welcomed AA’s news service in Kurdish.
“With its Kurdish broadcast, AA will constitute a strong bridge between Turkey and Kurdish population in surrounding countries, our Kurdish brothers, sisters and public opinion there, just like it does with Bosnian in the Balkans and Arabic broadcasts in the Middle East," Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said.
Republican People’s Party Chairperson Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu also praised the start of AA’s publishing in Kurdish, wishing them a successful term. (NV/BM)
