The Federation of Alevi Foundations has announced that 73 cemevis, the Alevi places of worship, have been opened for students' accommodation.
University students across the country have struggled to find housing due to excessively high rent prices and insufficient dorm capacity. They have been keeping vigils at night in parks, protesting against high prices.
The 12 foundations that make up the federation have 73 cemevis across the country, said the federation's head, Haydar Baki Doğan. "We allocate all our cemevis for the sheltering of all students in need expecting nothing in return."
Cemevi guesthouses can host between 400 and 700 students and they would be offered free meal from cemevis' soup kitchens, he said.
