The Adana Security Directorate has announced that "placards, pennants, posters and pennants about LGBTI+s" will not be allowed at the Women's Day rally on March 8.
Placards about the Boğaziçi University protests, which have been going on since early January against the appointment of a rector, will also not be allowed, according to the directorate.
Meeting with the organizers' committee of the rally after an application by the Adana Women's Platform, the directorate said "there is a sensitivity among the public because this issue has discrepancies with the general moral understanding of the society."
Releasing a statement after the meeting, the platform said, "We never accept this ban, which has no legitimate and legal basis."
"Determining what will be included in the content of the rally and which issues the March 8 covers are our decision as the Rally Organization Committee, not the decision of the Security Directorate.
"LGBTI+s exist and will exist. Our struggle against hetero-patriarchy will always continue everywhere, it will continue after March 8 as well. We are fed up with homophobia and transphobia and will never give up fighting against there. The colors of the rainbow are everywhere!" (EMK/VK)
