A 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook Meram district in Turkey's central Anatolian province of Konya at 8.43 pm yesterday (November 8).
The earthquake happened 10.61 kilometers deep, according to a written statement released by the Interior Ministry's Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) on its official website.
The AFAD stated that "it was following the developments," announcing that three derelict buildings have been damaged as a result of the earthquake. "Our teams have been referred to the area," it added.
The Governor's Office of Konya also made a statement about the Meram earthquake and said that "nothing unfavorable has been detected." In its statement on social media, the Governor's Office of Konya further indicated that "the scans and examinations are ongoing," announcing that "by following the developments, the public will be informed."
In his statement about the earthquake, Konya Metropolitan Mayor Uğur İbrahim Atay also said, "The earthquake continued for 10-12 seconds, I guess. As it was in the Meram area, we also felt it strongly. There has been nothing unfavorable reported to us so far. All our fire brigade teams are carrying out examinations in their regions. I ask our citizens to not panic. We will keep on sharing the information we have obtained." (EMK/SD)
