Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced that the number of children who were taken to security units increased 6.2% and reached 290,414 in comparison with 2013.
According to TÜİK, 57.5% of the aforementioned children were aged between 15 and 17, 24.5% of the aforementioned children were aged between 12 and 14 and 17.9% of them were aged 11 and under the age of 11.
68.3 of them were boys while 31.7 of the children were girls.
In 2013, 273,571 children were taken to police station.
High rate of juveniles who were pushed to crime
According to the same statistics, 117,486 children were taken to the police station with allegations of crime in 2014.
It is equal to an increase of 1.8%.
87.2 of them were boys while 12.8 of the children were girls.
In 2013, 115,439 juveniles were pushed to crime. It is equal to an increase of 14.5% in comparison with 2012.
The number of the lost children increased
*The number of the lost children who were found after increased 15.3% in 2014 in comparison with 2013. Child victims of crime increased 7.8%.
Children are mostly accused of injuring
* 45,211 of 117,486 children who were taken to security units were accused of injuring.
100,900 children in judicial institutions
* After taken to the police stations, 56.4% of the children were sent home while 34.7 of them were sent to judicial institutions.
Differences in statistics
* 6.4% of male child victims of crimes and 9.5% of female child victims are victims due to offenses against the family order.
* 6.4% of female child victims and 9 per thousand of male child victims are victims due to depriving of one’s freedom. (YY/BD)
