Workers digging out a foundation at a construction site in Milas district of Turkey's Aegean Muğla province discovered historical remains.
While 10 tombs were opened by archaeologists and museum attendants, human bones and several pots and pieces of pots were found there
A necropolis (an extensive burial place of an ancient city) was discovered while the foundation of a building was being dug out at İsmetpaşa Neighborhood. The construction works were halted upon this discovery.
The area of the burials site was taken under protection by the Milas Museum Directorate and an archaeological excavation was undertaken in the area with the help of construction equipments.
Excavated in company of archaeologists and museum personnel, 10 tombs, one of which was covered with marble blocks, were found in the area. The findings identified to be 2,400 years old, have been taken to the Milas Museum Directorate for examination. (AÖ/SD)
