The schooling rate of children aged between 6-17 decreased in the 2020-2021 school year compared to the previous year, according to a report by the Education Reform Initiative (ERG).
The report titled "Students and Access to Education" examines children's access to education and social services provided by schools during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the report, 15.5 percent of the children aged 17 and 3.6 percent of the children aged 14 enrolled in school.
The schooling rate among children aged 5 dropped from 71.2 percent to 56.9 percent in a year. İstanbul and Western Anatolia were regions with the sharpest decrease.
⇨ Turkey was the fourth country where schools were closed for the longest time among the OECD countries last year.
In the 6-9 age group, 143,861 of 5.19 million children are not enrolled in school.
In the 10-13 age group, 98.6 percent of the children are enrolled in school. More than 74,000 out of 5.13 million children in this group are not enrolled.
The schooling rate is 90.8 percent in the 14-17 age group, which means 457,274 children in this age group are out of school.
The schooling rate of Syrian children in Turkey was 64.4 percent in the last school year, up by 1.1 percent in a year. There are still 425,666 Syrian children out of school. (RT/VK)
