The Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Women's Assemblies have released a written statement in solidarity with the feminists resisting in Palestine, saying, "We salute the Palestinian Feminist Collective!"
The HDK statement reads as follows:
"We, the Women's Assemblies of the People's Democratic Congress (HDK) in Turkey greet the Palestinian Feminist Collective to share our heartfelt support for our feminist comrades in and out of Palestine who act and speak for the freedom of Palestinians from years-long Israeli occupation on their lands and related Israeli military attacks.
"We are aware that Israeli state has been continuing in its Apartheid policies in occupied lands, and it exacerbates its aggression against freedom-seeking Palestinians. We know that it is mostly the non-human animals and women-and children who are mostly hit - in numbers and scales - by the pro-war policies of masculine and colonialist rulers.
"We hereby stand in solidarity with the Palestinian Feminist Collective as an act of transnational feminist solidarity.
"We know that feminist solidarity at transnational levels empowers us and reinforces our struggle for an equal and free world. We are determined to act for feminist struggle across borders."
What happened?
Tension escalated across the Palestinian territories since last month over an Israeli court verdict to evict Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah in favor of settlement groups. The situation worsened after Israeli forces raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque and assaulted worshippers inside.
The tension spread to the Gaza Strip, with Israel launching airstrikes that claimed the lives of at least 248 Palestinians, including 66 children and 39 women, and injured more than 1,900 others. Health authorities in the West Bank have also confirmed that 31 people were killed in the occupied territory, totaling 279 across all Palestinian territories.
Twelve Israelis were also killed in Palestinian rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. The fighting, the fiercest in years, came to a halt on Friday under an Egyptian-brokered cease-fire. (EMK/SD)
