The Press Office of the People's Democratic Party (HDP), which runs its members under the Green Left Party (YSP), stated that around one thousand YSP voters in the Şahinbey district of Antep in the southeast of Turkey, were unknowingly registered as members of the balloting committee for the Patriotic Party (Vatan Partisi). Reportedly resulting in elderly and illiterate voters being unable to vote at their designated ballot boxes.
Murat Sarısaç, an HDP Van MP and YSP MP candidate told bianet, the personal information, including the identity card numbers of these individuals, was accessed without their consent, which constitutes a serious breach of confidentiality and a major irregularity.
"We believe that they have done this in collaboration with the Justice and Development Party (AKP), as the Patriotic Party (Vatan Partisi) has accessed the identity card information of these people and registered them as their balloting committee members without their consent, Our people cannot cast their votes in the ballot boxes where they are registered. More than a thousand people have been affected.
"Our lawyers are there to ensure that our people will be able to vote. We are trying to send the voters to the courthouse and to get the necessary documents. The same problem is observed in many schools.
YSP MP candidate Sevda Karaca posted a message stating that individuals who are unable to vote at their designated ballot boxes must obtain a document called "Document 142" from the courthouse. Karaca provided contact details and offered assistance to anyone who requires it. (TY/PE/WM)
