Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, chair of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the joint presidential candidate of the Nation's Alliance, has promised to bring down pet food prices if and when he assumes power.
Posting several photos on Instagram yesterday (March 12) Şero, a cat living in the CHP headquarters and has become a symbol of the party, Kılıçdaroğlu described cats as "wise animals" and said Şero "had become experienced in politics now."
"I will end foodstuff being identified as a luxury when we come to power. We will love all that we walk on the same streets with, everyone, the young, the old, the cats, the flowers, the ants with all our hearts; because compassion is a virtue," Kılıçdaroğlu wrote.
While the Value Added Tax (VAT) for food is 8 percent, the VAT for some foodstuff is 18 percent, considering it "luxurious consumption" said the joint candidate and promised to bring the tax down.
