People's Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chairperson Mithat Sancar said in a TV interview today that the party will be deciding whether or not to run with a candidate in the presidential elections after Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's visit to the party.
Sancar had invited Kılıçdaroğlu to visit HDP headquarters "in order to discuss joint candidacy" on March 6 after the leader of the main opposition party was nominated as the joint candidate for the presidency by the Nation Alliance of six opposition parties.
Kılıçdaroğlu has said that he will "certainly visit HDP."
Journalist İlker Karagöz interviewed Sancar today in the morning on Fox TV. HDP co-chairperson noted here that there has not yet been any request from Kılıçdaroğlu for an appointment. Sancar said that they will be talking to Kılıçdaroğlu when he visits them for a concrete roadmap and they will be deciding after that on whether or not to run with a presidential candidate at the authorized bodies of the party and their alliances.
HDP requests the closure case be postponed
HDP is going to make another application to the Constitutional Court in order for the HDP closure case to be postponed to a date after the elections, Sancar also informed. The HDP closure case should not be on the agenda during the election period, Sancar said and added that they will be making a new application as soon as the election date was officially announced.
The co-chair also replied to a question about the discussions over "allocating a ministry to HDP" that emerged after the party signaled they may support the main opposition leader in the presidential elections. Sancar told that they did not have such an expectation and that they do not want to be pulled into this debate. (RT/PE)
