The police detained 48 members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) during raids on party offices and homes in 12 provinces this morning (January 14).
ESP Co-Chair Özlem Gümüştaş and Sıtkı Güngör, a party assembly member at the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), and Pınar Gayıp, a reporter for Etkin News Agency (ETHA) were also among the detained, Mesopotamia Agency reported.
The raids were conducted after the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued arrest warrants for 52 people as part of an investigation into several outlawed groups, including the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Marxist Leninist Communist Party (MLKP), the Communist Party of Turkey/Marxist-Leninist (TKP/ML) and the Revolutionary Socialist Workers' Movement (DSİH) the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
The police broke the doors of the party's district office in Yamanlar, İzmir, according to the report. (RT/VK)
