Amended Version of Article Restricting Employment of Discharged Physicians Passed

The Article no. 5 of the "Motion Foreseeing Amendments to Some Laws and Statutory Decrees on Health", which prevents the employment of medical doctors, who were discharged by Statutory Decrees or could not pass the security investigation, in private health institutions, was passed at the General Assembly of the parliament yesterday (November 14)

The Article no. 5 of the motion, which was also discussed at the General Assembly on November 13, was withdrawn and its content was amended by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), which had proposed the related legislation, after the objections raised by the opposition.

After being discussed again at the assembly yesterday, the content of the article was amended again. The amended version of the article has been passed at the General Assembly of the parliament.

According to the approved article of the motion;

"Physicians discharged from public service for being members of terrorist organizations or having relations with them and the ones not accepted to public service as a result of security investigations launched against them, shall be allowed to practice their professions 450 days after the decision of their discharge or non-appointment was issued."

Before being amended, the article foresaw that the aforementioned physicians could not practice their professions for 600 days.

In the new motion, the statement stipulating that "medical doctors, dentists and medical specialists discharged from public service for being members of a terrorist organization or having relations with them shall be solely permitted to work in private medical institutions which do not have contracts with the Social Security Institution (SGK)" has been removed from the motion.

The article was approved by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Health, Family, Labor and Social Affairs Commission on November 7. (HK/SD)
