President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has issued an urgent expropriation decree for several neighborhoods in three provinces that were affected by the recent wildfires and floods.
According to the presidential decision published in the Official Gazette today (August 24), some private properties in Güdoğmuş district of Antalya, Bozkurt and Abana districts of Kastamonu and Ayancık district of Sinop will be expropriated in order to "urgently meet the need for housing."
Urgent expropriation is a procedure that allows the government to seize immovable property in extraordinary circumstances. Over the past decade, it has been exercised not only after natural disasters but also for the construction of dams, power plants and similar projects.
The southern province of Antalya was the hardest-hit province from the massive wildfires in late July and early August while Kastamonu and Sinop were severely affected by the floods in the country's north a couple of weeks ago. (TP/VK)
