The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the consumer and inflation figures for January 2019 today (February 4).
Accordingly, in January 2019, the Consumer Price Index (TÜFE), which is also termed consumer inflation, has increased by 1.06 percent on a monthly basis, by 20.35 percent in comparison with January 2018 and by 17.16 percent when compared to twelve-month averages.
As for the Producer Price Index (ÜFE), or producer inflation as it is also called, it has increased by 0.45 percent in comparison with December 2018, by 32.93 percent in comparison with the same period last year and by 28.70 percent when compared to twelve-month averages.
* Change in consumer inflation over the last year
In January 2019, the price of yellow wax pepper has increased the most. While the price of yellow wax pepper has increased by 87.87 percent in comparison with December 2018, the price of eggplant has increased by 80.94 percent and that of spinach by 67.63 percent.
Highest increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages
The figures announced by the TurkStat have shown that while the highest increase in monthly consumer prices has been measured in food and non-alcoholic beverages with 6.43 percent, they have been followed by some good and services with 3.62 percent, health with 3.56 percent, culture with 3.18 percent and restaurants and hotels with 1.07 percent.
Highest decrease in clothing and shoes
The highest decrease in consumer prices in January has been measured in clothing and shoes with 7.95 percent and in housing with 3.10 percent.
Price increase in 267 products
While the prices of 21 articles included in the consumer index in January 2019 have not changed, the average prices of 267 products have increased. The prices of 130 articles in the index have fallen in the first month of 2019. (HA/SD)
