The Bursa Governor's Office announced yesterday (May 26) that all events in the city were banned for seven days.
The ban will affect the concerts of two Kurdish singers, Mem Ararat and Aynur Doğan, whose planned concerts in other cities were also banned earlier this month.
Since the start of May, municipalities run by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and governors have banned the concerts of several Kurdish and dissident musicians.
Some concerts were directly canceled by municipalities, while others were affected by governors' bans on any kind of event to "protect public order and security."
Among the banned events were a youth music festival in Eskişehir and the concert of singer Melek Mosso in Isparta, events that were deemed "immoral" by religious groups in those cities.
Yesterday's order by the Bursa Governor's Office also cited the protection of public order and security, as well as of "national security, the fundamental principles of the republic and the indivisible integrity of the state and the nation" for the ban.
