As part of events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the famous director Pier Paolo Pasolini, an exhibition titled "Pasolini's Cappadocia" has been opened in Kadıköy Sinematek.
Comprising photographs taken during the shooting of the film "Medea" (1969), part of which was shot in Cappadocia, a rocky region in central Turkey known for its "fairy chimneys," the exhibition will be open until August 12.
The photos were taken by the film set photographer Mario Tursi. Matching Pasolini's approach of improvisation-based filmmaking, the photographs were shot in natural light and in black and white so that colors would not be distracting.
Along with the exhibition, 14 films of the director are currently being screened at Sinematek to mark his 100th anniversary. The screening will continue until July 3.
Emin Alper, the art director of Sinematek, said, "It is a great happiness and honor for the Sinematek team to be able to make the Italian master Pasolini meet the audience on the big screen after many years."
"We are opening the program with the movie 'Medea.' Medea is a movie that was shot in Cappadocia. In this context, it has a special meaning for Turkey."
The exhibition can be visited free of charge between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays except Monday and between 12 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on the weekend.
