In the first 10 months of the year, some 2,153 doctors have applied to the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) to receive a "document of good conduct," which is required to work abroad, the association announced today (November 1).
In October alone, 215 doctors filed an application with the association.
The number of doctors seeking emigration from the country has increased drastically over the past decade, the TTB figures show.
In 2012, only 59 doctors applied for a document of good conduct, whereas this number has increased nearly 40-fold this year.
Last year, some 1,405 doctors applied to work abroad.
Doctors' groups have increasingly been complaining about low wages and long working hours, as well as violence against healthcare workers.
A "document of good conduct" shows a doctor's professional record and whether they had received a fine before.
