About half of people wear a mask on the street, which is mandatory in the city, and comply with the physical distancing rule, according to a survey by the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).
The survey was conducted by the municipality's İstanbul Planning Agency with 450 mukhtars, or neighborhood heads in 39 districts of the city of 16 million people.
Here are the findings of the survey:
- 51.2 percent of the mukhtars said neighborhood inhabitants were cautious about taking their own precautions.
- 44 percent said the physical distancing rule was complied with.
- 49.4 percent said people wear masks on the street.
- 54 percent said rules were followed in grocery stores.
- 49.8 percent said healthcare services could be easily accessed.
- 37.5 percent said the physical distancing rule was followed in collective activities.
- 63.4 said people benefited from healthcare services.
- 94.9 percent said neighborhood inhabitants applied for social assistance.
- 59.6 percent said the controls during the curfews were effectively implemented.
- 43.4 percent said required penalties were imposed due to violations.
- 57.6 percent said the demand for social assistance increased significantly.
- 62.8 percent said people with disabilities received adequate service.
- 55.2 percent said the neighborhood inhabitants have a normal income. (EMK/VK)
