Figures announced by the Presidency of Supervised Release Department show a noteworthy increase in the number of children under judicial control measures and released under supervision.
The number of children under such conditions increased from 946 in 2010 to over 19,000 in 2019, according to the figures. While this number slightly decreased after the pandemic, the problem awaits long-term and permanent solutions.
Release under judicial control, which requires people to check in the nearest police station on specified days and hours, has become more frequent in recent years.
The practice of supervised release, which is one of the leading measures alternative to imprisonment, can sometimes be used outside of its purpose, causing more people to be included in the penal execution system.
The graph shows the increase in the number of children under judicial control in recent years.
Also, there are 1,913 child prisoners in the country, including 566 convicts, according to figures announced by the Directorate General for Prisons and Detention Houses on October 31.
According to the Civil Society in the Penal System (CİSST), there are 345 toddlers with their mothers in prisons.
What is judicial control?A judicial control order is a criminal procedure that is implemented instead of arresting a person despite the existence of the reasons for an arrest. A judge releases a suspect or a defendant "on the condition of judicial control" rather than arresting them. Judicial control measures ensure that the suspect of the defendant is taken under control by administrative means, such as checking in a police station or a ban on leaving the country. (Source) |
