Since January 26, 2021, the Health Ministry of Turkey has been sharing the number of COVID-19 vaccines administered across the country on a provisional basis with a regularly updated map.
According to the data shared by the Ministry, as of 7.45 p.m. on June 15, a record-high 1 million 118 thousand 160 doses of a vaccine, either Sinovac or Pfizer-BioNTech, were administered in Turkey in 24 hours.
While the number of people who received the first dose was 21 million 691 thousand 767 in total, the number of people who received both doses was 13 million 918 thousand 901 in total. The total number of vaccine doses administered thus far was 35 million 611 thousand 668.
NOTE: Posting a tweet at midnight (June 16), Health Minister Fahrettin Koca has announced the total number of vaccine doses administered across Turkey yesterday as 1 million 240 thousand 311.
Nearly one third administered in 3 cities
11 million 589 thousand 166 vaccine doses, which account for nearly one third of the total number of vaccine doses administered thus far, were received in İstanbul, İzmir and Ankara provinces.
The vaccination numbers in the 3 metropolitan cities were as follows:
* İstanbul - The number of first doses: 3 million 883 thousand 602; the number of second doses: 2 million 270 thousand 577; the total number of vaccine doses administered so far: 6 million 154 thousand 179
* Ankara - The number of first doses: 1 million 844 thousand 942; the number of second doses: 1 million 168 thousand 566; the total number of vaccine doses administered so far: 3 million 13 thousand 508
* İzmir - The number of first doses: 1 million 468 thousand 353; the number of second doses: 953 thousand 126; the total number of vaccine doses administered in the city so far: 2 million 421 thousand 479

Vaccination began in Turkey on January 13
The first COVID-19 vaccine was administered in Turkey on January 13, 2021 and Health Minister Fahrettin Koca was the first person to receive the vaccine in Turkey. To date, Turkey has been giving the Sinovac and BioNTech jabs, and signed an agreement for the Sputnik V vaccine.
Over 2.18 billion doses in the world
According to the figures shared by the World Health Organization (WHO), 2 billion 187 million 874 thousand 534 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered across the world as of June 13, 2021.
