Trans Activist Figen Commemorated in Mersin

Figen, a trans activist who committed suicide, has been remembered in Mersin with carnations and wish lanterns yesterday. 

Friends and rights advocates assembled last night around 7pm local time at Peace Square, marching to the waterfront and leaving carnations, blowing wish lanterns.

"Trans-murder is political!” a banner said. LGBTI activist shouted slogans including "Down with morality you are sinking", "Trans killings are political", "State shoots, state protects”.

"We bid another star farewell to eternity,” their press statement said. (ÇT/BM)
