Providing a home to many migratory bird species, Lake Seyfe in the Mucur district of the Central Anatolian province of Kırşehir has dried up completely.
Between 1998 and 2022, the water level of the lake had remained below average, Assoc. Prof. Sultan Kıymaz told Anadolu Agency (AA).
"There were the Seyfe, Horla, Yenidoganlı and Malya drainage resources feeding Seyfe Lake. In our studies, we saw that these resources have dried up recently as well," she said.
"In our studies in the Seyfe basin, we see that the water level in the lake decreases very seriously, especially from June to December, with the use of wells for drinking water and agriculture.
"There is an intense pressure on water resources here. Underground resources are used in an unchecked, uncontrolled and senseless way."
The Lake Seyfe Bird Sanctuary is a home to 187 bird species, including 27 endangered species. (RT/VK)
