We would like to wish a happy Eid-al-Fitr to all Muslim communities.
Eid-al-Fitr, also known as Sugar Feast or Ramadan Feast in colloquial Turkish, is celebrated for three days at the end of the month of Ramadan according to the Hijri calendar. This year, it will be observed on May 2-4.
Since the Hijri calendar is lunar, each year is 11-12 days shorter than a year in the Gregorian calendar. As a result, Sugar Feast is celebrated 11-12 days earlier each year.
During the festival, Muslims visit their elders and share a feast with family members. Children also visit their neighbors, and in return, they receive small gifts such as sugar or napkins.
The Sugar Feast coincides with the same period once in approximately every 33 years. We wish you all a joyous Sugar Feast. (HA/VK)
