Nakliyat-İş, the transportation workers' union affiliated with the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) announced that they will go on strike in FedEx since no agreement was reached in the collective negotiations with the company.
Union members met in the Beyazıt Square in İstanbul, and chanted slogans and carried banners and signs expressign their demands.
"We will only sign an agreement approved by 80 percent of the workers"
Nakliyat-İş President Ali Rıza Küçükosmanoğlu who spoke in the meeting said that the strike action will start on August 19. Accordingly the legal procedures to go on strike have been completed but the negotiations also continue.
Küçükosmanoğlu said that there were some steps that the employer had taken but that the overall offer made was unacceptable.
"We have a promise to the FedEx workers. Nakliyat-İş union will not sign an agreement which is not approved by 80 percent of the workers. We will go on strike. It is not our aim to go on strike. Our aim is to get decent sallary, ours is a class struggle," he said. (HA/PE)
