As part of an investigation based in Turkey's eastern province of Batman, gendarmerie officers launched operations against houses in city center and some villages in early morning hours today (June 22).
The house of dismissed Co-Mayor of İkiköprü town Hatice Taş, who was previously removed from office by the Interior Ministry and replaced by a trustee, was also raided as part of the operation.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), seven people, including Taş, have been taken into custody in Batman so far.
Hatice Taş as well as İkiköprü municipal council member Tahsin Yıldırım, municipality personnel Hüseyin Taş, Cemal Doğan, Ekrem Evruz and Bayram Özalp and one more unidentified person have been reportedly taken to the Batman Gendarmerie Command.
House of other dismissed Co-Mayor raided as well
As reported by the MA, the house of Osman Karabulut, the other dismissed Co-Mayor of İkiköprü town in Beşiri district, was also raided. However, as he was not home, Karabulut could not be detained.
Warrant for detention against 25 people
While the reason for the investigation is yet unknown, there are reportedly warrants for arrest against 25 people in total. (TP/SD)
