Journalist Cevdet Şen, Doğan News Agency (DHA) reporter for the city of Kınık, was assaulted in the local teachers house on 25 July because of a news report he had written about a raid on a pharmacy.
18-year old F.K. supposedly hit Şen on his head with a hard object in the teachers' house in the district of Kınık in Izmir. F.K. immediately fled the scene after the attack.
Journalist Şen was wounded and taken to the Kınık Health Centre where he received first aid. He was then transferred to the Bergama State Hospital.
Attacked for report about raid on pharmacy?
According to Tahsin Tuna from the www.BergamaPazari.com website, Cevdet Şen did not suffer from serious injuries. The journalist told him, "I was hit on the head three times in a row. I did not understand what was going on. I do not have any problems with anybody".
Şen talked to District Governor İlyas Gül over the phone to inform him about the assault. He demanded to find the perpetrator as soon as possible. Suspect F.K. was arrested and taken into custody by the police later on.
The 18-year old F.K. had previously been accused of breaking the shop windows of a pharmacy owned by Ziya Sarvan, former Kınık District Mayor of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). F.K. allegedly attacked journalist Şen because of his news report about the raid on the pharmacy. (EÖ/VK)
