"Accept it or not"
"Annan will Announce his Intention to Put Forward an Ultimatum-Like Solution Proposal," was the title of yesterday's (August 29) Fileleftheros Newspaper.
The newspaper wrote that the United Nations (UN) would put forward a complete solution proposal for the Cyprus Problem and impose it on the Turkish Cypriot state in an "accept it or not" approach.
"The UN does not intend to put forward a solution outline or a written draft during September 6 talks between Annan, Denktas and Clerides in Paris," reported the newspaper. "UN will try to prolong the negotiation talks till December when it will put forward the solution proposal."
Fileleftheros also wrote that Thomas Weston, the U.S. State Department's Special Coordinator for Cyprus, would come to the region next week and thus not be present at the September 6 talks in Paris.
"Sovereignty was discussed"
Haravgi Newspaper was headlined, "Denktas and Clerides Talked about Sovereignty Yesterday." The newspaper reported that "sovereignty" was the subject of the negotiation talks yesterday, and that both sides continued with their unchangeable attitudes.
According to the newspaper, Denktas "threatened" with double sovereignty, while Clerides refused double sovereignty and rejected to abrogate "Cyprus Republic."
"Nothing has changed"
"Negotiation Talks Continued in the same Manner," was the headline of the Mahi Newspaper. The newspaper said that the 6th round of talks between Denktas and Clerides were shadowed by the September 6 talks to be held in Paris.
The newspaper reported that Alvaro de Soto, the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus, was also present at the talks that lasted for little more than an hour. Alvaro De Soto did not intervene at all during the talks according to the newspaper. (NK)
