The Governorship of Şırnak has announced that all demonstrations and events including protest marches, setting-up tents and statements for the press have been banned in the city center and districts of Turkey's eastern province of Şırnak for 15 days as of October 1.
In the statement of the Governorship, the aim of the ban has been indicated as "maintaining national security, protecting public order and security, preventing crimes, protecting fundamental rights and freedoms as well as the fundamental rights and freedoms of others and public peace, maintaining the security of general traffic and passengers, preventing the occurrence of incidents of violence and all types of negative incidents".
Accordingly, referring to the Article 11/C of the Law no. 5442 on Provincial Administration and the Article 17 of the Law no. 2911 on Assembly and Demonstrations, the Governorship has banned the following events and demonstrations for 15 days as of October 1:
"All types of open-air meetings and protest marches; all types of demonstrations and events such as statements for the press to be held by institutions and organizations outside their buildings, sit-in protests, rallies, petitions, opening stands, mass funeral ceremonies, commemoration ceremonies, festivals, concerts, feasts, theater plays, shows, etc."
"The events deemed suitable by local administrative bodies, public institutions, associations of public interest, university, governorship and district governorship" have been exempted from this 15-day ban on demonstrations and events. (RT/SD)
