Following an appeal by Manşur Yavaş, Metropolitan Municipality candidate from Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP), Ankara’s electorate scrambled to check each local election result on 30 March.
More than 2000 volunteers gathered in CHP Headquarters and they are comparing the election results announced by YSK in Ankara and records taken by the ballot box committee.
According to the unconfirmed results, it was announced that Melih Gökçek received 44.64% of the votes while Mansur Yavaş received 43.92%.
However, some people from Ankara claimed that some ballot box records were not taken and some other records were taken wrong.
People share news on social media that CHP still has 17 thousand votes unrecorded or recorded on other parties.
According to a news from Hürriyet daily newspaper, former AKP deputy and academician now a member of Mansur Yavaş’s election team Suat Kınıklıoğlu said a great number of discrepancy has been identified in comparisons till now.
“For example in 3522 numbered ballot box, 217 votes CHP received were recorded on Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). Some records didn’t include our votes. We will transmit coordinately our objections till 15.00 am which was determined as dead line by YSK,” said Kınıklıoğlu.
“It is not important who will be the winner. The aim is to make people relieve about the election results. Thus, the votes in Ankara must be counted one more time. This isn’t so hard,” stated Gürsel Tekin, CHP Vice Chairman. (EKN/BD/BM)
