Objection to Release of 2 Defendants in Hrant Dink Murder Case Accepted by Upper Court

After the 14th İstanbul Heavy Penal Court ruled for the release of two arrested defendants in Hrant Dink murder case, namely former İstanbul Gendarmerie Team Commander Captain Muharrem Demirkale and Fox TV's former newsroom chief Ercan Gün, the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to the ruling on the same day (March 14). The upper court has accepted the objection raised against the verdict of release.

The İstanbul 15th Heavy Penal Court, the upper court, gave its judgement regarding the objection of the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office today and revoked the verdict of release on probation given for Gün and Demirkale. The court has ruled that their arrest shall continue.
In their hearing held yesterday, the 14th Heavy Penal Court gave a verdict of release for the two arrested defendants considering the time that they had already served in prison, imposing an international travel ban on them. (HA/SD)
