Civil society organizations have made a press statement about the ongoing hunger strikes in Turkey’s prisons, calling on the authorities to protect prisoners’ rights, primarily their right to health and life.

Amid ongoing protests against the appointed rector of Boğaziçi University, 147 writers have released a joint statement of support: “We stand with the resistance at Boğaziçi University. We won’t bow down to persecution and oppression.”

Taken into custody in İstanbul’s Kadıköy, where they gathered to express their support for Boğaziçi University protests and to declare the foundation of “United Struggle Forces”, 61 people have been referred to the Anadolu Courthouse.

The Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) has announced that 83 people who were battered and detained in the capital city have been released.

İstanbul Governor’s Office has announced that 65 of the 94 people detained in Kadıköy yesterday have been released. Of the ones detained in Beşiktaş and Sarıyer, 11 have been released, while the proceedings of 29 people are still ongoing.
