İstanbul Governor’s Office, in an attempt to prevent Boğaziçi students’ protest, has announced that demonstrations and marches have been banned in the districts of Sarıyer and Beşiktaş, where the campuses of the university are located.

After 22 people were detained for protesting the appointment of a university president to Boğaziçi by President and AKP Chair Erdoğan, 14 more people have been taken into custody. There were reportedly warrants against 28 people.

Mehmet Aslan, a reporter for Mezopotamya Agency (MA), has been detained in a house raid in İstanbul as part of an investigation launched by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The state-run AA has reported that a detention warrant has been issued against 28 students who protested the appointment of Prof. Bulu as the new President of Boğaziçi University. 17 students are currently detained.

According to a recent report released by the Tigris-Euphrates Journalists’ Association (DFG), 79 journalists were detained, 24 journalists were arrested and 43 journalists were sentenced to 150 years, 15 days in prison in total in 2020.
