Trials Continue Under Article 301
Dink, editor of an Armenian language newspaper, Agos, was found guilty of insulting Turkishness. Zarakolu is accused under Article 301 for publishing Jerjians and Sakayans books on Armenian issue. Belges case will continue on 8 June.

Article 301 Used to Persecute Writers
A local court sentenced writer Kisanak to 6 month in prison for publicly insulting the state by writing a book called Lost Villages. The prison sentence was then commuted to a fine of 3,000 YTL. Kisanaks lawyer Kilic will appeal the decision.

Six to Stand Trial on 301 This Year
Cagri magazines reader Erkan Akay, as well as writer Orhan Pamuk, journalist Ersen Korkmaz, publisher Zarakolu, writer Kisanak, and singer Ferhat Tunc, will stand trial based on article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code by the end of this year.

Reporters Without Borders has released the 2005 World Press Freedom Index report ranking 167 countries according to the level of freedom of the press. Turkey has been ranked 98th, fifteen places higher than last year.
