Diyarbakır MP Paylan says no empty beds left in intensive care services at city's hospitals

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır deputy Garo Paylan has submitted a parliamentary question to Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca about the recent situation of the epidemic in the city.

"Are you aware that there are no vacancies in intensive care services in Diyarbakır?" he asked.

Doctors' organizations in the southeastern region have been recently pointing out the increase in Covid-19 cases and high occupancy rates at hospitals.

Minister Koca today (August 6) denied the claims, saying that no province in the country has empty bed shortages for Covid-19 patients. 

"While 10 percent of the active patients in Turkey are being treated in intensive care, this proportion in Diyarbakır and other provinces of the region has reached 15 percent," he stated. 

Saying that the coronavirus outbreak is "alarming" in Diyarbakır, Paylan remarked, "We are concerned that the rates of cases and deaths will reach a more grave point if the necessary precautions are not taken."

He also asked the following questions:

While hundreds of new cases are found in Diyarbakır every day, how do you announce 1,000 cases across Turkey?

Are you aware that the low numbers of cases that you state drive people to complacency?

Do you know that high fees are demanded from coronavirus patients in Diyarbakır who have to be admitted to private hospitals because of the inadequacy of state hospitals? (RT/VK)
