Equality School Report by Women’s Association: Turkey Fails All Classes

On March 8 Women's Day, the women's organization KA.DER has issued its 10th "Equality of Women and Men in Representation" school report of Turkey.

The report has once again revealed the "absence" of women in decision making mechanisms.

According to the report, Turkey has failed not only on basic courses such as "Number of Women at the Grand National Assembly" and the "Number of Women at Municipalities", but also on the courses of "Political Authority to Prevent Inequality and Violence", "Understanding of Equality in Laws" and "Ability to Engage in Teamwork with NGOs."

In the End of the Year Degree by the Counsellor part of the report, it is stated:

"The student, who was given a leaving certificate last year, is still not following the developments and laws about equality in the world, continues its discrimination in favor of men and keeps on ignoring women. In fact, the student has the intelligence and ability to raise our country from its current embarrassing level to a much higher level."

KA.DER made the following statement in the press release where it shared its equality report:

"On the occasion of March 8, we again remind all political parties: 'Change your party constitution to realize equality of women and men and adopt the zipper system for a 50%-50% equal representation."

Last year, on the ground that there was not a suitable environment to produce statistics under the State of Emergency conditions, KA.DER could not issue its "school report", which was produced based on the rates of women at decision making bodies that are formed by appointment and election. Therefore, instead of publishing a "school report" for Turkey, the organization issued a manifesto. (ÇT/SD)
