The court has issued an arrest warrant in default ordered that legal action be taken for red notice to be issued for journalist Can Dündar in the “MİT Trucks” trial that recommenced after Supreme Court had reversed the decision.
In the trial, Cumhuriyet newspaper former Editor-in-Chief Can Dündar was sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison on charge of “making state’s confidential documents public”, and newspaper’s representative to Ankara Erdem Gül was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Stating that sentence imposed on Dündar should stipulate from 15 to 20 years in prison, the Supreme Court had reversed court’s verdict and ruled that Dündar be tried again.
According to Doğan News Agency, İstanbul 14th Heavy Penal Court issued a detention warrant in default for Dündar on the ground that he is abroad and he cannot be reached, and ordered that legal action be taken for red notice to be issued.
