Short animation movie “Hadia” (Present) directed by Sinem Sakaoğlu has been granted two awards at the Chicago Children Film’s Festival.
“Hadia” received Liv Ullmann Peace Prize and Best Animated Short 2nd Place in the festival program.
The animation was prepared as part of the “Syrian Cultural Heritage for Children: Books and Games” by Anadolu Kültür (Anatolia Culture).
The animation tells the story of a 6-year-old superhero Tarek from Aleppo.
She dedicated the award to Osman Kavala
In the speech she delivered at the award ceremony, director Sinem Sakaoğlu said, “I dedicate this prize to Osman Kavala, who got in touch with me a year ago in order to make this movie and asked me ‘Is there any way to do something to give hope to Syrian children that were displaced from their homes?’, and is unfortunately in prison now”.
After the screenings in the festival, “Hadia” will be available on streaming.

Sakaoğlu carries on her animation works in the US, Germany and Turkey. She worked at various animation movies. She directed Das Sandmännchen - Abenteuer im Traumland co-produced by Germany and France in 2010. She made the visual effects of Fatih Akın’s movie “Cut”. (HK/TK)
