Iran's pressure on journalists inside and outside the country is not new. Yet with rising online harassment and recent attempts to kidnap dissidents living in Türkiye, dozens of journalists and activists taking refuge on this side of the border feel increasingly at risk.

During the raids where 11 journalists were detained last week, the police also seized all the computers in the office jointly used by the Mezopotamya Agency and JINNEWS. Now, 10 journalists have only two computers.

Several journalists have reflected on the new "disinformation law," and how it would affect their practice.

Akarsel was shot dead in Iraqi Kurdistan. Her body was brought to Türkiye by land as the authorities reportedly did not allow air transport. Police blocked the entry of many people to her village to attend the funeral.

The journalist wasn't at home at the time of the raid. The police found out that she was a journalist only after forcibly entering her apartment.

According to the newly adopted article 15, in case it is understood that a press card holder does not have the qualifications required by the law or that they lose such qualifications over time, the Directorate of Communications will have the authority to revoke the press card.

The proposal of a new "disinformation law" has been protested ahead of parliamentary discussions.

A criminal case was opened against the journalist because of a video he shared on social media.

"Because I'm a 70+ youngster, 'my actions that may harm national security' were punished by Fahrettin Altun and his team," said the journalist.

"It's not me but those who committed the robbery in the people's municipalities who should stand trial," said Oktay Candemir.
