69 journalists and 30 distributors were behind bars between January and March 2013 in Turkey. Out of 69 journalists and 30 publishers currently jailed in Turkey, 44 journalists and 29 distributors were from the Kurdish media.

“Orwellian Accusations Levelled Against Journalists in Turkey”
Turkey falls into a category all on its own with respect to clamping down on journalists, according to a new report published by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ.) The report indicates that Turkey broke its own record in arresting journalists, with some 76 press workers currently serving time behind bars.
