Supreme Election Council Rejects HDP’s Objection Regarding Discharged Mayor-Elects

The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has rejected the extraordinary objection raised by the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) to the YSK's decision on the discharged mayor-elects.

Submitting a petition of extraordinary objection to the YSK on April 13, the party requested that the decision of the council preventing the mayor-elects, who were discharged by statutory decrees during the State of Emergency, from receiving their certificates of election be revoked.

Discussing the objection of the HDP for two and a half hours, the YSK has rejected the application of the party by a vote of seven to four.

The party also appealed to the Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) on the allegation that the YSK member committed "misconduct in office."

HDP referred to YSK's attitude as 'trapping'

Having approved the candidacy of discharged people before the local elections on March 31, the YSK has then ruled that "the mayor-elects who were discharged by statutory decrees during the State of Emergency shall not be granted their certificates of election."

Making a statement about the issue, the HDP referred to the decision of the council as "trapping" and "the part of a planned political plot."

Regarding the decision of the YSK to give the certificates of election to non-elected candidates, the party said that "the YSK has appointed trustees and put itself in the place of people's will." (EMK/SD)
