Soldiers open fire on refugees’ vehicle: Two people lose their lives

Soldiers opened fire on a vehicle with 84 Afghan and Pakistani refugees on board near Beğendik town of eastern Siirt province's Pervari district. It was alleged that they did not obey the "stop" warning.

As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), the incident happened at 1.30 a.m. on June 27, claiming the lives of two refugees and wounding 12 others. The paramedic teams referred to the scene of the incident took the wounded to the Siirt Training and Research Hospital.

While the lorry driver R.E. has been taken into custody, the other refugees have reportedly fled the scene of the incident.

Governor's Office: They didn't obey the warning

In a statement released by the Siirt Governor's Office, it has been indicated that "during the Pervari-Beğendik Gendarmerie Station Command's road security and control patrol on Beğendik Bridge, the soldiers stroke back as a lorry approaching the checkpoint at around 1.27 a.m. did not obey the 'stop' warning and fire was opened from the vehicle."
