PM Yıldırım: We Believe We Can Solve Our Problems with Germany Through Dialogue

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has commented on Germany Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel’s statements about Turkey.

Responding to journalists’ questions following the Friday prayer in Ankara, Yıldırım said, “I hereby call on German authorities: let us act calmer and deliberately” with respect to Germany FM Gabriel’s statements”.

Gabriel had broken short of his vacation after the arrest of the rights advocates in Büyükada and held a press conference in Berlin yesterday (July 20).

Gabriel requested that the rights advocates among whom is German citizen Peter Steudtner, imprisoned journalist Deniz Yücel and translator Meşale Tolu be released. Stating that there is no legal security in Turkey, Gabriel said that they will review social and economic ties.

“Turkey is safe as Germany”

Addressing Gabriel’s statements, Yıldırım said “We believe we can solve our problems through dialogue”.

“Our government continues to see Germany as a strategical ally. I hereby call on German authorities: let us act calmer and deliberately. Damaging ties benefits neither Germany nor Turkey.

“It was claimed that in the statement delivered yesterday that Turkey has launched investigations into 68 German-based companies. This is totally a lie. There is no such thing. Turkey is a safe country. It is as safe as Germany”. (BK/TK)
