Hunger strikes in Turkey’s prisons end on 290th day

Demanding an end to the isolation of jailed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı and to the violations of rights committed in prisons, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the indefinite-rotating hunger strikes in Turkey's prisons ended on their 290th day.

As reported by ANF, in a statement made by Deniz Kaya on behalf of the prisoners, it is said, "The AKP, the concentrated form of the September 12 coup, is putting all its skills to be worthy of its own creator. We will resist, succeed and triumph with the spirit, awareness and faith of the Amed prison resistance, which defeated the September 12 fascist coup."

The statement of the prisoners has pledged to "resist until they ensure a free Leadership, Free Kurdistan and Democratic Turkey."

Prisoners went on an indefinite-rotating hunger strike on November 27, 2020 in protest against the isolation of PKK leader Öcalan in prison and the rights violations committed in prisons, especially during the pandemic. The periods were increased from 5 to 15 days as of July 14. (RT/SD)
