10 More People Detained in ‘Social Media Operation’

10 people were detained due to their social media posts about Afrin operation in Konya this morning (February 6).

Konya Security Directorate Anti-Terror Bureau teams launched an operation on the ground that 14 people, who are claimed to be "members of the terrorist organization PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party)", "supported the organization and its attacks in Afrin on social media". The prosecutor's office issued detention warrants for the 14 figures on charges of "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" and "inciting people to enmity and hostility".

10 people were taken in simultaneous operations launched by Special Operation units this morning. Search for the other four people continues.

The detainees were taken to Anti-Terror Bureau for questioning.

573 detentions, 34 arrests

The Ministry of Interior announced that 449 people were detained due to their social media posts about Afrin operation and 124 people were detained for participating in the demonstrations organized in protest of the operation since January 20 when the offensive began. In total 573 people have been detained for protesting the offensive.

At least 34 people were arrested due to their social media posts from January 20 to February 1. (AS/TK)
