HDP Şırnak MP Hüseyin Kaçmaz has submitted a Parliamentary question regarding the inmates who have gone on a hunger strike in Osmaniye Prison against ill treatment and violation of rights.

A concert to be held with the slogan “Revoke the Statutory Decrees, Close the State of Emergency Commission” has been banned by the Şişli District Governorship in İstanbul.

Journalist Ahmet Takan, a columnist for daily Korkusuz, has been assaulted with a baseball bat in front of his house in Dikmen, Ankara. Takan was previously targeted by MHP Chair and MHP Secretary General.

PEN Germany Center has declared imprisoned journalist and writer Ahmet Altan an honorary member. Jailed for 1,138 days, Altan was released on November 4, to be arrested again a week later on November 13.

The ECtHR has decided that the freedom of expression of Atalay, who was given a 10-month prison sentence for attending a funeral and demonstrations, was violated and that Turkey shall pay 7 thousand euro for damages.

Standing trial on charge of “membership of a terrorist organization”, Academic for Peace Assoc. Prof. Tuna Altınel had his second hearing. The prosecutor has demanded that Altınel be penalized for “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”.

20,000 mines have been destroyed at the eastern border of Turkey as part of a de-mining project funded by the EU. Head of EU Delegation to Turkey Berger has indicated that the EU will continue supporting Turkey’s efforts to de-mine its border.

Eight international press freedom and journalism organizations have released a report on the status of press freedom in Turkey. The report has put forward nine main findings and offered 11 recommendations on freedom of press in the country.

The attorney has applied to the Constitutional Court, requesting the cancellation of an order for an internal body examination on her imprisoned client.

Going on a hunger strike in Osmaniye No. 2 Type T Closed Prison, inmates have indicated that they are deprived of their legal rights, they are forced to be counted on foot and when they do not accept it, they are battered and face disciplinary investigations.

Answering the Parliamentary question of CHP İstanbul MP Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi, Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Süreyya Sadi Bilgiç has indicated that 29 suicide attempts have taken place in Parliament in the last 9 years.

23 freedom of expression and press organizations from 19 countries have expressed support for writer and academic Fikret Başkaya ahead of his hearing in Ankara on November 22: “Terrorist propaganda charges against him must be dismissed.”

Requesting a Parliamentary investigation into “the inconsistent and unlawful judgements of judicial bodies”, HDP MP Danış Beştaş has said, “We witness that the judicial mechanism does not fulfill its responsibility of abiding by the law.”

On November 15 International Day of the Imprisoned Writer, PEN Turkey, Turkish Writers’ Union, Journalists’ Association of Turkey and Turkish Publishers Association have held a joint statement and raised concerns over imprisoned writers.

Taken into custody in Giresun, journalists Canan Coşkun and Tuğba Demir, documentary filmmaker Kazım Kızıl and Şaban Vatan, the father of Rabia Naz, have been released on probation by the judgeship after bearing testimony.

Canan Coşkun, who is still under detention, has spoken to bianet, saying, "They also confiscated a bag of Kazım Kızıl, taking the coat of arms of Hamburg Film Festival on the bag as 'crime evidence.'"

Hakan Demir was one of the numerous people who were detained over comments on Turkey's military operation in Syria.

PEN Turkey Center and PEN International have released statements on the occasion of November 15 International Day of the Imprisoned Writer. Among the five journalists whose cases are highlighted by the PEN this year is also Nedim Türfent.

Detained together with documentary filmmaker Kızıl in Giresun, Coşkun has been charged with "blackmailing, threat, causing injury on purpose, insult, and depriving a person of his/her freedom."
