10 rights advocates taken into custody during a training workshop on July 5 in Büyükada and brought before prosecutor’s office to testify on their 13th day in detention have been referred to court for arrest.

Detention order has been issued for director Mustafa Altıoklar due to his postings on the social media on the anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt in 2016.

33,074 people have been discharged from the Ministry of National Education through statutory decrees in the wake of July 15 coup attempt. 4,756 of them have been arrested.

Amnesty International has described human rights advocates being detained and charges pressed against them as “ridiculous and baseless”, and called for immediate and unconditional release of them.

Yüksel Street protesters Esra Özakça, Acun Karadağ, Nazife Onay, Nazan Bozkurt have been sentenced to house confinement. The verdict was rendered upon prosecutor’s office’s objection to decision of release on probation.

As a reaction against human rights advocates being taken into custody, 41 rights organizations and defenders from five different continents have made a statement demanding the release of the detained advocates and made a call to the Government and ministries.

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered detention for 34 former employers of TRT claimed to be users of ByLock, an encrypted communication software allegedly used among members of the Gülen Community.

An additional seven days of detention has been issued for the human rights advocates who were taken into custody at training meeting in Büyükada in İstanbul.

On his Twitter account, CHP MP Salıcı has announced that “Koray Çalışkan has just been detained from his home. The legislative intention is not clear, one more time academic whose address is known hasn’t been summoned to testify”.

HRW Europe and Central Asia Director Williamson has said that, “Detaining some of Turkey’s leading rights activists at a training workshop is a repressive new low for the Turkish state”.

Being detained in Büyükada in İstanbul, eight human rights advocates have been referred to four police stations in districts of Maltepe, Pendik and Kartal. Two educators are kept in Büyükada.
