Yakup Önal of the local newspaper in Sarköy, Tekirdag, is still on trial for insulting the AKP mayor and two members of the municipality council. There are six cases open and up to 21 years imprisonment are demanded by the plaintiffs.

The quarterly bianet report for April to June of this year reveals that journalists and reporters in Turkey still face harassment and legal consequences for informing the public. Four journalists are awaiting trial under Article 301.

Same Court Same Journalist Different Decrees

After dismissing a case against journalist Bogatekin three months earlier, the same prosecutors office in Gerger, south-east of Turkey, has started a second trial against the same journalist under Article 301. His trial is to start 25 July.
