More Attacks on Media as "Security" Bolsters
22 journalists and 10 distributors entered the year of 2015 behind bars. In the period of October-December, 33 media representatives, 2 websites, 1 Twitter account has been attacked; 43 journalists have been detained.

Dutch Reporter Acquitted For Taking Photo in Courtroom
Facing 6 months of prison for taking photos during a court hearing, Dutch journalist Mehmet Ülger was acquitted. The case file, on the other hand, didn’t even include photos as evidence.

Cumhuriyet’s Request Removes Media Ban in Yüksekova Killings
Upon Cumhuriyet newspaper’s request, Hakkari Peace Court judge removed the media ban related to the killing of three Turkish soldiers in the southeastern district of Yüksekova on October 25. The ban on dead bodies, however, will resume until the end of investigation.

News Stories on Children Face Monetary Penalty
The court opened 14 cases against Cumhuriyet Newspaper administratives İbrahim Yıldız and Aykut Küçükkaya and sentenced them to pay 200,000 liras under the claim that they reveal identities of children in the news pieces. Most of the children faced the police violence.

The Media’s 3 Months: 186 Journalists Fired
23 journalists entered the month of July in prison. 15 new cases were filed based on the TMK in April-June 2014; 38 people were convicted in total to 2 months 15 days in prison and 277,400 TL in fines for insulting the Prime Minister. 54 reporters were attacked. The ECHR gave a penalty of 160,000 TL in fines.

The case of journalist Hrant Dink’s murder seven 7 ago encountered a roadblock when the court failed to obtain defendant at large Ahmet İskender’s opinion on the Supreme Court of Appeals’ decision. The case has been postponed to October 30.
